After revealing the pricing details for its new 2022 VW Taos, Volkswagen is ready to tell you more about its official fuel economy ratings for its compact SUV.

Offered with an optional front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive system, each 2022 VW Taos models hide under their hood a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 158 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque.

The front-wheel-drive models have their engine coupled to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that rated an EPA-estimated range of 28 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. Meanwhile, Taos models sporting the available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system have the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission rating EPA-estimated numbers of 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.

Senior vice president of product and strategy for Volkswagen of America, Hein Schafer, stated that the company developed the Taos for North America with a balance of efficiency and drivability that we’ve rarely seen from competitors in the compact SUV space. “We think customers will embrace a fun-to-drive, well-equipped SUV at a very competitive price point,” he said.

The Taos announced recently the pricing for the U.S. market starting at $22,995 in entry-level S guise, at least $27,245 for the SE with front-wheel drive, and $28,695 for the SE with all-wheel drive. The most expensive 2022 Taos SEL starts at $31,490 with front-wheel drive and $33,045 with all-wheel drive. The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is expected in the US dealerships in June this summer.
