Ford recently revealed the plug-in hybrid version of its Ranger truck at the 2024 IAA Transportation in Hannover, exactly one year after its initial announcement. This new Ranger PHEV keeps the robust capabilities of the regular Ranger—whether towing, carrying payloads, or tackling off-road conditions—while adding the benefit of zero-emission driving and introducing a unique Stormtrak trim.

The Ranger PHEV combines a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a 101 hp electric motor integrated into the transmission. Together, they produce a total of 275 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque.

An 11.8 kWh battery powers the truck, enabling it to travel up to 28 miles solely on electric power. Charging the battery takes less than four hours, and the vehicle includes regenerative braking to help extend its range.

It features a 10-speed automatic transmission, an e-4WD system with a dual-range transfer box, and a rear differential lock to handle a variety of driving conditions. In terms of capability, the Ranger PHEV can carry a payload of up to 1 tonne (2,205 pounds) and tow up to 3,500 kg (7,716 pounds).

It also boasts an enhanced Pro Power Onboard system, allowing users to power tools, electronic devices, or trailers with either a 2.3 kW or an optional 6.9 kW power supply. The truck’s exterior largely resembles the standard Ranger, aside from the charging port positioned near the fuel cap on the rear fender.

The special Stormtrak trim adds distinct features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a honeycomb-pattern grille, exclusive decals, and redesigned side gills with PHEV branding.

Buyers can choose between the unique Chill Grey or the classic Agate Black. Matrix LED headlights and a Flexible Rack System at the rear further distinguish this trim. Inside, the Ranger PHEV offers premium materials, a 10-speaker B&O sound system and a 12-inch infotainment screen with a 360-degree camera system.

Manufactured at Ford’s Silverton plant in South Africa, the Ranger PHEV will be available in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with deliveries starting in spring 2025. We will announce the pricing details closer to the release.
