Mercedes-AMG gave us a sneak peek of their upcoming plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the new GT sports coupe at the Munich Motor Show. This PHEV GT is gearing up for launch as a two-door counterpart to the GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door Coupe.
While it may look pretty much like the standard GT, what's cooking under the hood is exciting. The total system output in the four-door GT PHEV is 831 bhp thanks to a 201 bhp motor mounted on the rear axle. This layout is probably making it the most potent series-production car from AMG.
The new GT has undergone some significant changes, embracing a two-plus-two interior layout for added practicality. It's loaded with tech goodies, including a 12.3-inch instrument panel, an 11.9-inch infotainment screen with AMG-specific features, and various driving modes. It also features rear seats suitable for kids.
This 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Plug-In Hybrid seems set to be a powerhouse, possibly outmuscling even the previous-gen GT Black Series in terms of power. It's part of Mercedes-AMG's strategy to offer a diverse range of models based on their Modular Sport Architecture, all while adhering to stringent emissions rules.
What's reassuring is that despite the advancements and growth in size, the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT still retains that classic AMG character, complete with the signature V8 engine growl. Plus, it now benefits from four-wheel drive, enhancing both safety and performance. More details are expected to roll out as the car gets closer to its official launch.
