2024 Kia EV9: Unraveling the Anticipated EPA Range Estimates
by AutoExpert | 16 October, 2023
Kia America took center stage earlier this week, first by revealing the pricing of their 3-row EV9 SUV, and now, by unveiling the much-anticipated EPA range estimates.
Surpassing previous expectations, the Kia EV9 lineup boasts impressive mileage numbers across all five variants. Leading the pack is the Light Long Range RWD, delivering a commendable 304-mile EPA range on its 19-inch wheels, slightly surpassing Kia's internal aim of 300 miles.
Trailing closely behind are the AWD double EV9 engine and EV9 Land models, both sporting 19-inch wheels, with an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles. The pièce de résistance, the Kia EV9 GT, with its stylish enhancements and stunning 21-inch wheels, clocks in a 270-mile range.
Notably, these four trims are powered by the mammoth EV9 battery pack with an astonishing capacity of 99.8 kWh. On the other hand, the entry-level Kia EV9 Light RWD is equipped with a 76.1 kWh battery, delivering a 230-mile EPA range on its 19-inch wheels, slightly outdoing Kia's initial estimate of 223 miles.
The EV9 Light version is tailor-made for extended family getaways on pure electric power, whereas the GT-Line is fine-tuned for dynamic city driving. Clearly, the EV9 has a configuration for every future-forward SUV enthusiast.
It's intriguing that during the Kia EV Day in Seoul, there was no mention of these EPA estimates for the EV9.
Pioneering a new era, the EV9 is the inaugural model on Kia's E-GMP platform, leveraging advanced fourth-generation battery technology for enhanced electric density. Its 800 V electric setup supports rapid charging via high-speed DC, powering the battery from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes when paired with a 236 kW charger.
American dealers eagerly await the EV9's arrival this quarter. Pricing starts at $56,400 for the Light RWD trim and peaks at $75,400 for the premium GT-Line (including destination charges).
Reservations for the EV9 open on October 16. Customers can secure their spot with a $750 fully refundable deposit at participating Kia dealers, choosing from four available launch trims: Wind AWD, Light Long Range RWD, GT-Line AWD, and Land AWD.
