Cadillac's all-electric Lyriq SUV will go into production soon, and pre-orders will be accepted online on May 19th. Spring Hill, Tennessee's production facility will begin shipping vehicles to dealers later in May. Both the rear-wheel-drive Lyriq and the AWD performance model will be available on the website.
There have been substantial changes to Cadillac's plans for this launch. Initially, they aimed to attract the attention of 200,000 people and build 3,200 vehicles. So far, Cadillac has received interest from at least 233,000 people and plans to produce 25,000 Lyriqs.
"We have yet to tell how many of those hand-raisers will translate into customer orders," Rory Harvey, vice president of global Cadillac, told media Tuesday.
Cadillac also stated that an improved version of Super Cruise will be available for drivers of the CT4, CT5, and Escalade. The driver-assistance technology allows users to travel completely hands-free, and the new version adds autonomous lane-changing functionality that works with/without a vehicle in tow.
