2023 BMW X8: New Information Arrives
by AutoExpert | 1 October, 2021
Four years ago, rumors of an BMW X8 surfaced, but it wasn't until recently that BMW chairman Oliver Zipse implicitly confirmed the premium SUV. "Another high-end car" will be revealed at the end of the year, and since it will be made in the Spartanburg facility, it will almost certainly be an SUV, as the Spartanburg plant is where the X3 through X6 models, including their M versions, as well as the X7, are produced.
While 2023 BMW X8 is unlikely to have the vertical kidneys seen on the iX and other contemporary BMW cars, the X8's massive grille will give it an extravagant front fascia. The artist who created this rendering omitted to include the fuel cap, which should be two because the luxobarge is expected to have a plug-in hybrid engine.
The X8/XM, codenamed "Project Rockstar," is reported to be BMW's most powerful SUV ever, combining the V8 with an electric engine for a total output projected to exceed 700 horsepower for the Competition version. It will be an xDrive-only affair, however, a Drift Mode isn't out of the question. Because the X8 will be marketed as the sportiest X model in the lineup, it may be omitted from the X7's third row to save weight.
The sloping roofline suggests restricted rear headroom, but BMW has a habit of surprising us these days, so it's impossible to forecast what the Bavarians are preparing. It's amazing enough that an SUV positioned above the X7 is in the works. BMW X8 will most certainly go on sale in the United States next year, with a six-figure starting price, as the X7 M50i is $99,800.
