2022 BMW X8: What We Know So Far
by AutoExpert | 22 July, 2021
2022 BMW X8 will be a coupe version of the X7. This is almost unavoidable given the current craze for SUV coupés; competitor Audi also has a car like this in the works with the Q8. The X8 could be unveiled in 2021, with three engine options available at launch, the most powerful of which is the actual X8 M. The standard auto is set to hit the market in 2022.
The new 2022 BMW X8 rear end will be the most distinct from the BMW X7's. The lower roofline will reduce rear headroom, but in a car this size, this shouldn't be an issue. The tailgate appears to be a huge hatchback-style design, although the shots aren't clear on whether it will have a split opening like the X7's.
2022 BMW X8 will certainly be available with the same motor options as the present BMW X7. For entry-level versions, it implies a pair of six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as a version of the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 already available in the X7 M50i for mid-range X8s. BMW is extremely likely to develop a high-performance X8M vehicle employing the M5 and M8 Competition's 625 hp 4.4 liter V8. The car has an "electric test vehicle" logo on the side, which, when linked with the quad-exit exhaust, could indicate that this is the first plug-in hybrid M automobile.
The 3.0-liter plug-in hybrid system used in the X5 is anticipated to be included in the forthcoming X8 as well. This hybrid system delivers a total of 389 hp in the X5 xDrive45e thanks to the 111 hp electric motor - it's possible that a hybrid X8 will be even more impressive.
The interior of the new BMW X8 has yet to be revealed. However, it is unlikely to differ significantly from the X7's interior. The disguised test car in the photos looks to have temporary headlights, which are identical to those seen on prototype models of the future BMW i7 electric saloon. The finished vehicle will have large LED lighting with BMW's distinctive daytime running lights.
There are no pricing figures yet, but 2022 BMW X8 should start at about £80,000, which is a few thousand pounds pricier than the BMW X7.
