Vision Pro Goggles in the Driver's Seat: A New Level of Distracted Driving
by AutoExpert | 11 March, 2024
You gotta see these videos of people wearing Apple's new Vision Pro goggles while Tesla's Autopilot drives them around. Like... what is this, some kinda sci-fi movie? It's seriously freaking out the government. Transportation bigwigs are stepping in to be all like, "Hey, maybe don't do that."
Honestly, are people really this clueless? Or is this just another internet stunt for attention? Those goggles have this cool mixed reality thing, so videos have been popping up everywhere of people wearing them at dinner, at the gym... you name it!
A lot of the car videos look fake, and you can usually tell someone else is filming. But still, even just pretending to do this is pretty wild.
"It Was Just a Joke, Bro!"
Some dude named Dante Lentini put a video of himself behind the wheel in Autopilot mode with the goggles on. 24 MILLION VIEWS. Of course, he claims the whole thing was staged. The cops in the background? Just a lucky coincidence. Sure, buddy, sure.
Seems like the whole point is to act like we're living in some weird future where people can't even be bothered to look at the actual world while they're, ya know, driving.
Another guy, this YouTuber called Airrack, made a whole "day in the life" spoof video. Guy wears the goggles to the gym, gets a haircut, showers in them... hilarious, because those things definitely aren't waterproof.
Seriously Though, This is Kinda Dumb
Joke or not, the feds aren't laughing. Distracted driving is a real problem. Nobody's car really drives itself yet, no matter what Tesla tries to tell you. Apple even says right on their website: don't wear these things while driving!
Maybe people just need to chill for a sec. The goggles are cool, but maybe don't try to merge onto the freeway while you're playing a virtual reality game? Just a thought.
