Europe will soon see the release of BMW's powerful XM 50e model. For £109,825 (about $139,800), you get a version that has a unique combination of features.
A 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission make up the BMW XM 50e's hybrid powertrain.
Along with 469 horsepower, you get 516 pound-feet of torque. Despite having slower acceleration (62 mph to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds), BMW markets it as their most fuel-efficient offering.
Thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the XM 50e can get an astonishing 217 MPG on the WLTP test cycle, and its electric range is an incredible 52 miles.
The X3 M40d diesel and the M235i Gran Coupe 4-cylinder both have quicker acceleration, but this model is all about efficiency and being environmentally friendly, according to BMW.
Unique design elements distinguish the base BMW XM 50e from its competitors. Take, for instance, the black side accent band, grille, and rear diffuser trim finished in pearl-effect chrome.
All the special features are finished off with a high-gloss black lacquer and silver tailpipe borders.
The BMW XM 50e is the entry-level model, but it's touted as a revolutionary vehicle when it comes to fuel economy and environmental friendliness. This powerful and fuel-efficient addition to BMW's portfolio will be available for purchase in March.
