Tesla Cybertruck Motor Swap Raises Concerns: Upgrade or Stealth Recall?
by AutoExpert | 11 July, 2024
Uh oh, Cybertruck drama! Looks like Tesla's gotta swap out a motor in some of their already delivered trucks, and while they're saying it's just an "upgrade" for efficiency and reliability, it feels a whole lot like a recall to us regular folks.
Here's the deal: Tesla's contacting Cybertruck owners, telling them to head to a service center to get one of the motors replaced, free of charge. Tesla assures everyone it's safe to drive your truck with the old motor for now, but they're keeping quiet about which specific motor is getting the boot.
This whole thing is kinda strange. Tesla's known for pushing out software updates for their cars all the time, even adding features after a car's been launched (looking at you, Full Self-Driving Beta). But swapping out hardware? That's practically unheard of. Normally, car companies would just wait until the next year's model to make these kinds of changes.
And let's be honest, with all the issues the Cybertruck's already had – the wonky accelerator pedal and the windshield wiper that went kaput – it's hard not to see this motor thing as a potential problem.
It's pretty surprising how many people were willing to shell out a hundred grand for an unfinished electric truck, basically becoming Tesla's guinea pigs to iron out the kinks before later buyers get theirs. Talk about dedication (or maybe just blind faith in Elon Musk?)!
