Mercedes G-Class Adopts Suicide Door Configuration, À La Rolls-Royce
by AutoExpert | 10 November, 2022
While suicide doors have always been a hallmark of Rolls-Royce automobiles, thanks to Mansory, they are also available on the Mercedes G-Class. In the past, there have been a few other noteworthy outliers, such as the Mazda RX-8, Opel Meriva, Toyota FJ Cruiser, BMW i3, and most recently, the Fiat 500 3+1.
A G63 that had been modified for use in the United Arab Emirates was on display, showcasing the tuner's work on the vehicle's rear-hinged doors. At last year's launch of Mansory's showroom in Dubai, this Mercedes G-Class was showcased for the first time.
Mansory repositioned the door handles but also had to replace the hinges and the mechanism that opens and closes the door, which now latches into the B-pillar. The tuner claims this change is functional since it makes getting to the back seats less of a hassle.
The tuner is also responsible for the luxurious exterior kit and the interior makeover. All of these options may be paired with significant performance enhancements to make the G63's twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 generate an incredible 888 horsepower. The price tag for the enhancements is unknown, but we can assume it will be very steep.
