Luxury On Your Wrist: Here's The RM 65-01 McLaren Chronograph
by AutoExpert | 9 October, 2024
Shortly after the debut of McLaren’s W1 hybrid hypercar, Richard Mille followed suit with a jaw-dropping chronograph that seems designed to drain wallets. The RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1 is the latest in the ongoing collaboration between McLaren and Richard Mille.
This high-tech watch uses Richard Mille’s most advanced automatic chronograph movement, beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. It can measure time down to one-tenth of a second. Additionally, a rapid winding system enables quick recharge of the 60-hour power reserve.
Aesthetically, the watch draws heavy inspiration from the W1’s design. Richard Mille’s team analyzed early clay models of the car, incorporating features like the W1’s sleek bodywork and unique doors into the carbon bezel of the RM 65-01.
It’s the thinnest bezel they’ve ever made, just half a millimeter thick at its narrowest point. The skeletonized titanium dial mimics the W1’s wheels, and the crown is based on the car’s driveshaft splines. Papaya Orange accents, reminiscent of McLaren’s signature color, even show up on the rubber strap.
With only 500 pieces being made, this limited-edition watch comes with a staggering €250,000 (~$274,000) price tag. As Richard Mille’s technical director, Julien Boillat, put it, “Our teams and design language have really gelled, creating an incredibly strong partnership.” So, for those looking to accessorize their McLaren W1, this is the perfect wristwear.
