It seems that Audi's pride was hurt by TESLA! The american success and absolute dominance in the electric car segment provoked the Germans, who have said recently that they would launch a rival for Tesla Model S.
It is a model based on the next generation A6. The head of the technical department at Audi, Ulrich Hackenberg, revealed a few details, saying that the car's autonomy is of 450 km and it should arrive in dealer's showrooms in 2017.
It is not clear whether the new Audi model will be a standalone or be part of the A6 range, such as A3 E-Tron. Launching a full electric model is based on the development of new generations of engines and batteries that offer performance up to five times better than current engines, an example would be those on VW E-Golf.
Most likely, the new model will have a sedan body that would allow storing batteries in the floor of the car which would not affect the volume of trunk or passenger space.
