Genesis GMR-001 Set To Dominate WEC And IMSA Racing

Genesis is making its motorsports debut with the GMR-001 Hypercar, set to race in the LMDh class starting in 2026. This kicks off the Genesis Magma Racing team, which will compete in the WEC and IMSA championships.
The GMR-001 is a jaw-dropping car, inspired by Genesis’ futuristic Vision GT concepts. The GMR-001, with its futuristic design, sharp lines, sculpted bodywork, and massive rear wing, not only performs but also looks incredible.
Under the hood, the Genesis GMR-001 combines power and efficiency with a hybrid system that produces 671 horsepower, 67 of which comes from the electric motor. Rear-wheel drive and a lightweight build give it both speed and agility. While the full specs are still a mystery, it’s clear that Genesis has created something special.
The Genesis GMR-001 will be driven by two top-tier drivers: André Lotterer, a three-time Le Mans winner, and Luis “Pipo” Derani, a Daytona 24-hour winner. With this caliber of talent behind the wheel, the GMR-001 is in great hands. Genesis Magma Racing will be based at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, where development of the GMR-001 will begin in 2025.
Before its big debut in 2026, the team will team up with IDEC Sport for an LMP2 entry in the 2025 European Le Mans Series. What do you think—can they make a splash, or is this just the beginning of something even bigger for Genesis ?
