Ford Made Firsts Steps For Its V758 New Van Project
by AutoExpert | 9 March, 2021
Ford decided to engage the Hermosillo plant in Mexico to build the part quotes for its new van. The project goes by the V758 codename and could go into production in 2023.
The carmaker plans to release a maximum of 40,000 units and it’s meant to replace the 2021 Transit Connect. For this particular model, Ford revealed in March 2019 that was put on hold due to the contract negotiations with the Union Auto Workers union.
This situation created unplanned expenses to import the small van from Spain and they’re ready to consider importing the next-generation Transit Connect from Europe. This entire operation would be done via Ford’s partnership with Volkswagen.
Little details were made public about the V758 project, but it’s known that the new van could use the C2’s FWD / AWD platform architecture used in Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair since this is the platform used for up to other eleven models by 2023.
The same Hermosillo plant has already begun the production of the Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick pickup truck models. But there were still no official statements from the carmaker about the existence of the new compact Maverick pickup, despite the fact that it’s known that the Mexican plant already started to build its prototypes.
