Manual Transmission Is Available In The 2024 Toyota Tacoma

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma stands out as a versatile mid-size truck. One distinctive feature is its six-speed manual transmission, a rarity in its class, with the Jeep Gladiator being the only other option.
At Toyota’s North American Research and Development Center in Michigan, officials emphasized the importance of retaining the manual option. They highlighted that Tacoma owners are enthusiasts who specifically wanted the manual gearbox back.
In addition to being part of an exclusive club, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma manual comes with features like automatic rev matching, an upshift hold function, and a clutch start-cancel system. The clutch start-cancel system allows starting the vehicle in gear without using the clutch.
Off-roading enthusiasts particularly appreciate this, as it eliminates the risk of sliding backward when engaging the clutch. The manual transmission is paired exclusively with a slightly detuned version of the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The shifter is conveniently placed next to a multi-function rotary controller, providing easy access to drive modes and intelligent manual transmission features. Unlike the Tundra, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma's four-wheel drive setup requires pushing a release and choosing between 2WD, 4WD High, and 4WD Low.
For automatic variants, the knob incorporates additional controls for tow/haul mode, drive modes, multi-terrain select, and crawl control/downhill assist control. Engineers have enhanced the multi-terrain select system, allowing its use in both 4WD High and 4WD Low. Most importantly, the system can now adjust accelerator pedal response, engine torque, and gear selection to handle various driving conditions effectively.
