Decoding Tire Satisfaction: Insights from J.D. Power's Latest Survey

Ever think about the tires on a new car when you're out shopping for one? Probably not high on your list, right? You're likely more caught up in the engine specs or how snazzy the dashboard looks. But here’s a hot tip: the tires your new ride comes with might be cooler than you think.

Most new cars today aren’t just rolling off the assembly line with any old tires. Nope, they're sporting some seriously good gear from the likes of Michelin, Goodyear, and Continental. And according to a fresh J.D. Power survey, while most car owners are digging their original tires, EV owners aren't as thrilled—turns out, those eco-friendly tires wear down faster because they’re made to roll easier and save energy.

Tire Satisfaction

Ashley Edgar from J.D. Power threw in her two cents, saying that the dissatisfaction among EV owners is a wake-up call. It's an opportunity for tire and car makers to help EV drivers understand why their tires are different and what that means on the road.

The survey didn’t just ask if people liked their tires—it got into specifics like how they ride, how long they last, how well they grip, and even how they look. Yes, looks! Because apparently, some folks do care about their tires’ appearance. But let’s be honest, as long as they’re quiet, durable, and keep you glued to the road, they’re winners in my book.

They broke it down by types of vehicles too, getting opinions from over 31,000 owners of 2022 and 2023 models—covering everything from family cars to luxury vehicles and sporty SUVs.

And who’s leading the pack? Michelin continues to kill it in three major categories, especially with luxury cars—where they've been the top pick for over 21 years! For trucks and SUVs, Falken raced to the front this time.

Tire Satisfaction

Curious about the exact scores? Here’s a peek at who’s setting the tire world on fire:

  • Truck/Utility: Falken snagged 818 points, with Michelin not too far behind.
  • Performance/Sport: Michelin tops at 833 points.
  • Passenger Car: Michelin leads again with 823 points.
  • Luxury: No surprise, Michelin dominates at 834 points.

So, next time you're checking out a new car, maybe take a second look at those tires. They might just be some of the best parts of your new ride!
