Consumer Reports Rates BMW Best, Land Rover Worst

In Consumer Reports' annual Auto Brand Report Card Rankings, BMW moved up two positions to take the top spot, displacing previous winner Subaru, which is now in second place. The competition evaluates automakers based on the performance, safety, and reliability of their vehicles, drawing on Consumer Reports' own independent testing as well as feedback from member surveys.
Jake Fisher, Senior Director of Automotive Testing at Consumer Reports, commented on the Auto Brand Report Card Rankings, stating that it is not surprising to see BMW at the top of the list given the company's reputation for producing high-performing, reliable, and feature-rich models.
He noted, however, that non-luxury brands such as Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda have also consistently ranked highly in recent years. This suggests that consumers can purchase a high-quality car without having to pay luxury prices, as these brands provide both affordability and quality. Mini also performed well, moving up five spots to secure the third position.
The rest of the top 10 was dominated by Asian brands, including Lexus, Honda, Toyota, Genesis, Mazda, Audi, and Kia, respectively. Buick ranked 12th, followed by Dodge in 15th and Lincoln in 16th. The study also found that Tesla has improved its ranking, moving up six spots to the 17th position.
This improvement was attributed to better reliability, an area in which British luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover still struggle. Jaguar finished in 30th place, just below Alfa Romeo, while Land Rover ranked 32nd.
