BYD Unveils The Seal 06 GT: A New Electric Hatchback With Global Ambitions

BYD has introduced the Seal 06 GT, a new electric hatchback. This model is the production version of the BYD Ocean M Concept, which was first unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show.
There has been a reduction in the aggressive aero that gave it hot hatch vibes, but the exterior stays true to the concept's lines. The once prominent rear wing has inexplicably disappeared, and the production bumpers are less pronounced.
The production version lost some of the concept's flair, with smaller LED graphics on the headlights, taillights, and mirrors. While the hatchback features a unique dashboard and air vent design, it shares the digital cockpit, steering wheel, and much of the switchgear with the BYD Seal sedan.
Built to accommodate both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, the Seal 06 GT is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture.
To fill the space between the smaller Dolphin and the little bigger Seal sedan, the company has introduced the Seal 06 GT. The new BYD, measuring 4,630 mm (182.3 inches) in length and 2,820 mm (111 inches) in wheelbase, slightly outperforms the VW ID.3 and MG4 hatchbacks but trails the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 crossovers.
Although BYD has not yet released the official specifications, information from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicates that the single motor will produce 215 horsepower and the twin motor will produce 416 horsepower.
The BYD Seal 06 GT is set to make its formal debut on August 30th, and according to current currency rates, its cost will be between ¥150,000 and ¥200,000, or around $21,000 and $28,000.
