2023 BMW iX Prototype Will Receive 600-Mile Dual-Chemistry Batteries From ONE

Our Next Energy (ONE), a Michigan-based business, has inked a contract with BMW to integrate its Gemini dual-chemistry batteries into an iX prototype. The partnership between BMW and ONE follows its recent $65 million investment round. BMW I Ventures made the investment that resulted in this deal.
Mujeeb Ijaz, founder and CEO of ONE, stated, “We are thrilled to be working with BMW to demonstrate our Gemini long-range battery technology to consumers.”
The batteries from ONE are made up of two types of cells, some of which are designed for greater energy retention and others for improved energy delivery. As a result, the entire battery pack can have a longer range while employing less difficult-to-find components.
When compared to typical batteries, the business says that its battery technology will be capable to provide the BMW iX with 600 miles of range while utilizing 20% less lithium, 60% less graphite, and limiting the usage of nickel and cobalt.
In December, ONE installed its Gemini batteries in a Tesla Model S and achieved a range of 752 miles. The objective now is to begin pushing the technology into production. Ijaz informed Automotive News, “We’re on a path where every piece of the puzzle that’s required in understanding a production program is part of what we’re doing and discussing with them.”
