Australian streets better get ready to welcome the brand new 2021 Genesis G80 roaring 206 hp out of its diesel engine. Directly competing with BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class is now available with a new 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, delivering a torque of 326 lb-ft at 1.750 rpm to 2.750 rpm.
According to Genesis, the engine’s sounds are music to the ears, mixed with various harshness and vibration levels. The car has also lost some weight, thanks to the aluminum cylinder block.
Better results are also to be noticed in the friction reduction, engine performance, turbo boost responsiveness, and fuel efficiency – 6.6 liters per 100 km. This comes as a consequence of the variable geometry turbine ball-bearing turbochargers.
The diesel engine is teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission delivering the power to the rear wheels. Australia will also get two petrol-running alternatives to the diesel engine: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 300 hp with a 211 lb-ft torque and a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 347 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque.
The petrol-powered engines are also working together with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The only all-wheel drive in the lineup comes on the 3.5T model.
Genesis has also taken care of the environmental impact, as it installed on G80 a Selective Catalytic Reduction System. This helps reduce the exhaust emissions with the help of a urea Diesel Exhaust Fluid being sprayed into the exhaust.
