New York Auto Show debuted in force, with a long list of the premieres. Among the most important for the public in Europe was included the new Audi A3 Sedan, the third bodywork declension of the compact model from Ingolstadt.
The A3 the sedan version measures 4.46 meters in length, 1.80 meters wide (by 11 mm wider than the A3 Sportback), and 1.42 meters in height (by 9 mm lower than the A3 Sportback). The wheelbase measures 2.64 meters, guaranteeing enough space for five passengers.
The overall design combines the classicality of a three-volume model with a fluid line of a coupe, in that way managing to position itself as a potential rival of Mercedes-Benz CLA. The interior doesn't leave the classic and simple lines adopted by the A3 Sportback.
For the European market, the new Audi A3 sedan will be available with three engines. The first is the 1.4-liter TFSI, with the cylinder deactivation system. The unit offers 140 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, enough for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h. The consumption also remains low, reaching in a medium cycle the ideal value of 4.7 liters/100/km. The second engine will be the TFSI of 180 horsepower and 320 Nm. With a fuel economy of 5.6 liters and emissions of 129 g/km, the engine also can guarantee a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 235 km/h.
The most economic option from the new A3 sedan range will be, however, the TDI of 2.0 liters and 150 horsepower, ready to deliver 320 Nm, and with an average consumption of only 4.1 liters/100 km, with emissions of 107 g/km. The diesel offers a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h.
Along with that three engines, the Audi will offer the manual transmission or an automatic S-Tronic with seven speeds.
The basic version of the three-volume Audi A3, equipped with the 1.4 TFSI engine, goes on the German market at the price of 25,000 euros.
