South Korea has long been closed to foreign automakers. Now things are easing up a bit and GM is planning to import the Detroit made Chevy Impala sedan.
Auto imports into S Korea amounted to 13.92% of new car sales, compared with .004% in 1987 or .42% in 2000. So the Koreans are finally getting to enjoy a better sample of the offerings of foreign carmakers.
Sergio Rocha, CEO of General Motors Korea made the following statement: "We are thrilled to have the iconic flagship sedan complete Chevrolet's passenger car portfolio in Korea, We are confident that it is bold styling, comfort, safety, powerful performance, and technology will make it a leader in the highly competitive upper-medium sedan segment."
The 2016 model Impala will be sold in Korea with a choice of either a 2.5 L 4 cylinder engine or a 3.5 liter V6.
