2022 Nissan Rogue To Gain All-New 1.5-liter Turbocharged Triple

To compensate for the loss of power, the 2022 Nissan Rogue has been outfitted with a turbocharged engine, which adds 20 horsepower to the vehicle's output.

Last year's North American Nissan Rogue had only one engine option: a normally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. There's still only one motor for the 2022 Nissan Rogue, but it's a 1.5-liter turbocharged triple with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

The new engine is manufactured in Tennessee and employs the same clever variable compression tech as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that debuted in the 2019 Infiniti QX50 and Nissan Altima. To keep those strange three-cylinder vibrations in control, a new engine mounting system with two lower torque rods has been developed.

Nissan hasn't disclosed performance estimates for the new Rogue, but you can guarantee it'll be noticeably faster, with the added benefit of using significantly less fuel. In its most fuel-efficient front-wheel-drive variant, the old Rogue was rated at 30 mpg mixed, while the new one is estimated to produce 33 mpg. Nissan claims the new Rogue is the most fuel-efficient SUV in its class.

A new Xtronic CVT transmission, which has a 17 % broader gear ratio coverage and 32 % less friction than the 'box it substitutes, contributes to the 1.5 Rogue's increased mileage. It also has two oil pumps: one mechanical that delivers a modest amount of oil for smooth, gradual shifts under mild load, and another electric that forces more lubricant through for quick ratio swaps in red-mist circumstances.

All of these perks aren't free, of course. The base 2022 Nissan Rogue S now costs $26,700, up from $26,050 last year, while the top-spec Rogue Platinum AWD costs $37,980, up from $37,230 last year. The SV Premium Package costs $2,660, while the SL Premium Package costs $1,320. A head-up display for the Platinum trim costs $400.
