2022 Corvette C8 Gets Cleaner And Meaner
by AutoExpert | 17 June, 2021
Ecology is affecting carmakers but in a good way. For example, the LT2 V8 engine powering the 2022 Corvette C8 has become cleaner, thanks to the engineers' efforts. The target has been to update the engine without affecting its power.
Tadge Juechter, Chief Executive Engineer, has stated that the updated fuel injection system improves fuel atomization and creates fewer wastes, complying with the set emissions figure. Besides that, the 6.2 naturally aspirated engine has been recalibrated with Chevy’s Active Fuel Management System. Thus, the stop-start system works smoothly, goes green, and keeps the power of the car intact.
Talking about this Corvette’s power, this is definitely not the case when going green means going weaker. The updated C8 has improved its emissions but kept its power, aiming at 490 hp (365 kilowatts) – that is 465 pound-feet (630 Newton-meters) of torque. The optional Performance Exhaust pushes those figures to 495 hp (369 kilowatts) and 470 lb-ft (637 Newton-meters) torque.
The 2022 version has also received three new official colors and a low-profile spoiler option. Of course, it comes with a new price label. The wait for the new C8 will be worth it, in spite of the bumpy road till now. So, let’s welcome it accordingly!
