When you want to create a powerful road-car, using other automaker’s car parts is the shorter way to success. Cupra managed to cut a deal with Audi Sport to use their 2.5-liter turbo-five, to create the 2021 Formentor VZ5 and it’s a promising one.
Due to the pandemic’s restrictions, the unveiling took part in a live streaming event. Painted in Taiga Grey, the exterior paint is the exclusive one, but you can also choose from Midnight Black, Magnetic Tech Matt, and Petrol Blue Matt colors.
The interior has blue and black leather bucket seats. There are also Dinamica Black exclusive graphics and brown Nappa leather seat options for the customers. There is also the 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition, available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Travel Assist, Side and Exit Assist, Emergency Assist, and Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control driver assistant.
So far, Cupra revealed that the Formentor VZ5 will deliver 385 HP and 354 lb-ft of torque. It shows 0-62 mph acceleration in 4.2 seconds and top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). The model was presented as a 4Drive AWD system, 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, and it boasts DCC with 15 levels of damping adjustment. With Akebono brakes, the six-piston calipers at the front, this sporty SUV rides on 20-inch wheels.
Cupra even revealed the symbols behind the naming. So, the name is after cape Formentor on the Spanish island of Mallorca, and the 'VZ' stands for ‘veloz’ (‘quick’ or ‘fast’ in Spanish). Meanwhile, 5 is for the number of cylinders. The car is expected in the last quarter of the year, but still no information on the expected price.
