When 2022 Ford Bronco Meets A Nanny
by AutoExpert | 5 July, 2021
You never know where a genius idea might pop up from. Like this 2022 Ford Broco, whose storable doors have been inspired by a nanny with a Wrangler.
Bianca is a 21-year old nanny who has inspired Ford to create its removable storable doors. Whilst the nanny was struggling with taking the doors off and putting them somewhere… anywhere, Paul Wraith, Bronco’s chief design, got hit by an amazing idea.
The view of the young woman’s struggle helped Ford understand that not everybody needs all four doors, all the time. So they decided to solve that issue.
At first, Ford thought of extending the truck so that people could store their doors in the trunk. But the departure angle would have thus suffered. And it’s an off-road we’re talking about here.
Then, there was the weight problem. The doors must have been light enough for people to take them off, store them, and then put them back again, when necessary. Oh, and the mirrors, the armrests…
But the good old process of trial and error helped the designers nail it and get to the solution. Moreover, Ford was thoughtful enough to place a QR code on the bags, so that drivers got the removal process explained. Plus, they added a toolkit.
Pioneering in something is always scary, as you have nowhere to get some inspo from. But courage and perseverance helped Ford achieve its target, which we congratulate them on!
