When Volkswagen, decided to put out his 2022 Volkswagen Golf R Variant for the Nürburgring circuit, a pair of prototypes were caught on film running several hot laps. Unusual for an automaker to reveal important spots for the camouflaged vehicles, it’s clear already that the prototypes are featuring one of the ‘R’ with modified bumpers and side sills, along with bespoke rims wrapped in beefy and sticky rubber.
The interior might still support the new Golf R, becoming a hot hatch sibling, with front sports seats with integrated headrests, extra side bolstering and stitched ‘R’ logo, exclusive upholstery and trim, and even a standard kit. There is a large infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, special gear selector, a three-spoke steering wheel with the same ‘R’ branding and ambient lighting will be included as well.
The 2022 Golf R Variant will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-pot engine delivering an output of 315 horsepower and 420 Newton-meters of torque, coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel-drive. The hatch version of the new Golf R reaches the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds, while the Variant might need a little extra second but would keep the 168 mph (270 km/h) top speed brought in by the optional R-Performance Pack. This specific variant of the Golf R Won’t reach the US market, but still is a badass for any adrenaline addict.
