It seems like becoming one of the titans on the automotive market isn't enough for the German manufacturer. The latest Amarok scheduled to arrive on the market Volkswagen wants to develop its electric truck. Now, they won't build the new combustion engines, so it's a clear path to embrace the electric revolution.
Many VW fans are waiting patiently for the opportunity to drive their favorite brand's electric truck. During a Q&A online event, VW's senior VP of Product Marketing, Hein Schafer, confirmed the possibility of a truck, and immediately affirmed that it would be a perfect rival for the Ford Maveric.
Like any other Volkswagen employee, Schafer respects the manufacturer's unwritten rule - to never confirm an impossible concept. A brief mention of the possibility to give the US fans an electric pickup and even talks about how a larger SUV, the latest ID.4, could provide the perfect base platform for a pickup.
Now, there's a real chance that such a project already was discussed in their regular meetings. Such a concept was discussed first, during the official launch for the 2017 VW Atlas Tanoak, but then, it has confirmed that "for at least the next five years" and these five years expire in 2025.
In time we will see if 2025 will bring us a VW electrical truck, or we'll see the first photos of the concept. Fans would be glad to see either of them.
