Tesla Model S Facelift Steering Wheel's Safety Is Under Investigation
by AutoExpert | 5 March, 2021
At the end of January 2021, Tesla launched its new Model S facelift, the first major upgrade since its official debut. The first detail that caught everyone’s attention was the steering wheel which is actually inspired by the Knight Rider movie KITT’s steering wheel. The bizarre shape wasn’t branded as both a great and an unsafe tool for a car. Like tesla’s fans – you can love it or hate it.
There were also official comments from the international agencies that got pretty concerned about the safe use of it for regular traffic. The National Highway Traffic Safety Auto is investigating if the steering wheel respects all the federal safety standards and demanded more information from the automaker.
A month later and no official statements were released from any of the parties. We don’t know yet if this means that NHTSA dropped the investigation or if Tesla will give up implementing the steering wheel for the Model S facelift. We’ll get back to you with more updates if there will be any.
