Jidu Robo-01 EV Will Be Available In 2023 With Level 4 Autonomy
by AutoExpert | 13 June, 2022
The Robo-01 is the first concept presented by Jidu, a Chinese company. Baidu created the completely electric SUV, which will be manufactured by Geely, with Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities in mind. The design serves as a preview for a 2023 production model.
The concept combines an aerodynamic layout and a luxurious aesthetic. Jidu displayed a palette of three colors: Star Porcelain White, Nebula Gray, and Galaxy Purple.
The inside of the Jidu Robo-01 has a large screen on the dash, cameras that replace the side-view mirrors, a retractable steering wheel, and four seats. According to Car News China, the electric vehicle is fitted with DuerOS artificial intelligence software, and its hardware consists of an NVIDIA Orin X chip and a Qualcomm 8295 CPU.
Mercedes-Benz currently offers Level 3, the greatest level of autonomy on the market, so a Chinese carmaker introducing Level 4 is a significant step. The Jidu Robo-01 will be capable of self-driving the majority of the time, under the supervision of a driver.
According to Xia Yiping, CEO of Jidu, driving privileges will be passed from people to artificial intelligence in the future. We don't yet know much about the electric powertrain, but we'll learn more as the Jidu Robo-01 concept's Guangzhou presentation approaches. The model will cost around ¥200,000 ($30,000), which is a bargain considering the advanced features it has.
