Is a Used Genesis a Reliable Choice? Insights from J.D. Power and Consumer Reports
by AutoExpert | 1 March, 2024
You know Genesis, right? Hyundai decided to get all swanky a few years back, and now they've got this whole luxury brand thing going on. The cars are actually pretty sweet, and I hear their customer service is top-notch.
But here's what everyone really wants to know, especially if you're looking at a used one: are they gonna crap out on you halfway to work?
Here's the thing...
Those reliability nerds at J.D. Power seem to be seriously digging Genesis. Like, they ranked them right behind Lexus, which is kinda nuts! That's definitely a good sign. And from what I've seen, Genesis tends to do well on those reliability lists year after year.
Even Consumer Reports, who can be a real pain sometimes, says Genesis is alright. And hey, they seem to be getting even better lately.
Okay, but let's be honest...
No car company is perfect. Those early G70s had some weird engine trouble, and there were a couple of other hiccups here and there. Hopefully, the first owners got that stuff fixed under warranty.
Good news is, the crazy fire problems that are plaguing Hyundai and Kia don't seem to be happening with Genesis. Sure, there's always a recall or two, but usually for less scary stuff like fuel pumps and seatbelts. Annoying? Yeah. Going to leave you stranded? Probably not.
So, bottom line?
Seems like a used Genesis is a decent bet. It might not be the unkillable tank your grandpa's old Lexus was, but it's not gonna immediately fall apart either. Just do the usual used car stuff – see if the model year you like has any known problems, give it a good look over, and you should be fine!
