For the first time, a radical version of Lotus' Radford Type 62-2 has been shown, with one of the most recognizable liveries in Formula 1. John Player Special Type 62-2 is unfortunately limited to only 12 units.
"The John Player Special Type 62-2 is the most extreme Type 62-2 money can buy," remarked Jenson Button, co-owner of Radford and former F1 champion. It is similar to the Gold Leaf Edition in that it is a reinterpretation of the iconic Lotus Type 62 that is extremely limited in production.
According to Radford, the JPS edition's 600-hp (608 PS/447 kW) supercharged V6 motor (3.5-liter) is the strongest available.
Braking power is increased thanks to the addition of AP Monobloc brakes and 360-millimeter completely carbon-ceramic rotors. Around them are 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels made of Dymag carbon composite material. Lightweight, they assist reduce unsprung mass, which enhances control together with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The styling on John Player Special Type 62-2 is also more severe than on earlier versions. Type 62-2 Classic or Gold Leaf has a more prominent splitter. Bigger intakes and a diffuser that extends further back also give the current variant a more aggressive look.
Next week, John Player Special Type 62-2 will make its world premiere at the Goodwood Revival in the United Kingdom. Early in 2022, manufacturing is planned to begin.
