India Is Reportedly Getting The Much Anticipated Suzuki Jimny Five-Door
by AutoExpert | 5 December, 2021
Rumors of a long-wheelbase, five-door version of the Suzuki Jimny first surfaced in 2018 when the vehicle was unveiled. Now that the initiative has been approved, the five-door Jimny will be released in India soon.
The new Jimny will feature five doors and a wheelbase that is 300 mm (11.8 inches) longer than the existing three-door model. As a consequence, the more utilitarian Jimny is expected to be 3,850 mm (151.6 inches) long with a 2,550 mm (100.4 inches) wheelbase, providing additional capacity for both back passengers and baggage.
In 2019, the first drawings of a five-door Jimny surfaced, followed by a report regarding a late 2020 manufacturing commencement. There has been no trace of the vehicle for a year, and the only solid evidence we have that Suzuki is currently working on a new Jimny variation are some spy photos from early 2021 showing a long-wheelbase disguised prototype.
We anticipate seeing an enhanced version of the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter petrol engine combined with 12V mild-hybrid technology that is currently featured in other Suzuki cars. Because this is an off-road-focused vehicle and one of the few surviving SUVs with a body-on-frame chassis, all-wheel-drive will be standard.
Even though the Suzuki Jimny is not available in India, Maruti Suzuki is already developing the left-hand-drive variant and will shortly begin creating the right-hand-drive version for export. As a result, the future five-door model is scheduled to be manufactured at the same Maruti Suzuki Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.
