Honda Unveils CR-V e:FCEV: The First Plug-In Hybrid with Hydrogen Fuel Cell in the US
by AutoExpert | 28 February, 2024
Okay, car fans, the Honda CR-V just took a wild turn. This new 2025 CR-V e:FCEV isn't just another electric SUV – it's the first in the US with both a plug-in battery AND a hydrogen fuel cell!
Think of it as the ultimate hybrid, with a decent 29-mile electric range for everyday errands.
Under the hood? A single electric motor making 180 horsepower – plenty to get around. It gets power from the battery OR the hydrogen fuel cell. The whole setup gives you around 270 miles of range combined. Not as much as some gas hybrids or pure electrics, but here's why this is awesome:
You can charge this baby up like a normal EV and get 29 miles of electric-only driving. That's a lifesaver in California, where there are hardly any hydrogen fueling stations left.
Honda figures that's perfect for running around town, and then the hydrogen tank kicks in for big road trips. Oh, and this cool system was designed with help from GM.
This CR-V looks a bit sharper than the others too – it's got a special hydrogen fueling port in the back, a redesigned front bumper, and those snazzy clear taillights.
And get this – it only comes in the top-of-the-line Touring trim! That means dual-zone climate, big touchscreen, all the latest safety tech, wireless charging, and a killer Bose sound system.
The 2025 CR-V e:FCEV will be cruising California dealerships later this year. And maybe even Japan, if we're lucky!
