Hellephant C170 Crate Engine Is Unleashing 1,025 Horsepower
by AutoExpert | 22 November, 2023
Today, the star of the show is a new Hellephant C170 crate engine. For $27,675 before shipping, buyers can get their hands on a 6.2-liter beast equipped with a 3.0-liter IHI supercharger, expected to deliver 1,025 horsepower and 945 pound-feet of torque on 170-proof E85 gas.
However, since these engines lack road use approval for vehicles after 1975, the unrestricted versions dropped into various engine bays are anticipated to unleash even more power. For those seeking flexibility in weight and fuel, three more variants are available.
There's the cast-iron block Hellephant C30 6.2-liter engine, rated at approximately 900 horsepower on premium or a max ethanol blend of 30-proof E15. Additionally, there are aluminum-block options: the Hellephant A170 7.0-liter, reaching about 1,100 hp on the E85, and the Hellephant A30 7.0-liter, capable of up to 1,000 hp on the premium or E15. Direct Connection notes availability as far out as Q2 2024.
DIY enthusiasts with sophisticated build plans might opt for the Hellephant C170 long block, potentially saving money. Priced at $18,995 before shipping, this option includes the block and rotating assembly, cylinder head and valvetrain, valve covers and coil pack, camshaft, lifters, oil pump and pan, harmonic balancer, and front timing cover.
Excluding components like the supercharger, intake and exhaust manifold, fuel system, and belt, this version offers a cost-effective alternative.
It's worth noting that the long block does not come with a warranty, unlike the complete engine, which is covered for 24 months and unlimited miles. Given the previous success, where the 1,000-hp Hellephant sold out in 48 hours, the Hellephant C170 is likely to attract attention.
Dodge's Direct Connection parts store has prepared a number of long blocks for delivery around the same time as the C170 release. The store also offers other crate engines, ranging from the top-tier $12,995 Hellcrate Redeye 6.2-liter V8 with 807 hp to the entry-level $6,495 Hurricrate Cat 1 twin-turbo inline-six, rated for 420 hp and 468 lb-ft.
