To celebrate the launch of its first European R&D Center, Chinese carmaker GAC Group (Guangzhou Automobile Group Co) debuted the Barchetta concept car in Milan, Italy.
Designers at the new location will collaborate with those in Los Angeles, United States, and Shanghai, China, to create the next-generation cars for GAC and its subsidiary brands, such as Aion, Hycan, and Trumpchi. With its ultra-short body and partially hidden wheels, the new Barchetta design on show at the Milan studio looks sophisticated.
The Barchetta has no doors, windscreen, or windows and instead has two holes on the profile and elegant wheels with wire rims. The GAC R&D Center Europe is situated in Milan, Via Tortona, which is a design district. The property was formerly the studio of the late Milanese photographer, author, and poet Giovanni Gastel.
Vice President of the GAC R&D Center Zhang Fan stated: “Design is one of the most important values for the GAC Group and, in today’s market, a key decision factor for customers. We have chosen the city of Milan as our first European design hub for its strong cultural and creative identity, which combines ideas in motion, innovation, and heritage of style and design. We are confident that this center will enable the meeting of creative resources and the development of cutting-edge ideas between our country, Italy, and the rest of the world”.
