De Tomaso P72 Entering Production With Exciting Updates
by AutoExpert | 14 January, 2024
Great news for hypercar enthusiasts! The De Tomaso P72 is getting ready for production in the latter half of 2024, and the first one is expected to roll out by year-end.
The company recently confirmed this exciting development on Instagram. Surprisingly, HWA, the engineering firm known for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II restomod, and Apollo Automobili’s Intenza Emozione will be lending a hand in manufacturing the De Tomaso P72.
As a reminder, Apollo is a sister brand to the revived De Tomaso. The De Tomaso P72, with its sleek '60s-inspired design and a carbon fiber monocoque from the Apollo Intenza Emozione, was initially unveiled in 2019.
However, the production version will trade its originally planned mid-mounted V12 engine for a supercharged V8 from the Ford Coyote. Originally, De Tomaso announced a limited run of 72 units for the P72, starting at €750,000.
It's unclear if these figures have changed during production, and the availability of the remaining units is still unknown.
Quick reminder! Back in 2022, De Tomaso revealed the P900, essentially a track-only version of the P72. With just 18 units, a naturally aspirated V12, and a hefty $3 million price tag, the P900's production timeline remains uncertain and might follow the release of the P72.
